"Shh... That's not your mother, Chidori. She's a homunculus that only looks like your mother. She has no soul." Ed whispered, rocking the crying girl to calm her. "There used to be a homunculus named Sloth. She looked just like my mother and used it against me. Your real mother loved you and that homunculus knows it. That's the power she has over you." Rozel passed the baby over to Ed and took over the position of comforting Chidori. Wrapping her arms around her, Rozel kissed her forehead. "We are your parents now, Chidori. We may have just met you but we already love you. No one can take that away from you."

Chidori threw her arms around Rozel and cried on her shoulder "But why...why does that mean lady look like her?" she asked between sobs

Rozel looked at Ed, trying to figure out how to explain such a horror to such a young child. "I'm sorry, Chidori, but I simply can't tell you that. Not now, anyway. You are so young and innocent that I have to wait until the right moment to explain that to you." Ed had been staring down at his baby, thinking about his own experiences. Suddenly, he turned and began walking back into the building. "Edward? Where are you going?" Rozel called, confused by her husband's actions. He stopped. "I'm going to find out what we have to do to officially adopt her." He said and entered the building without another word.

Chidori rested her uninjured cheek on Rozel's shoulder and rubbed her bright blue eyes "My cheek hurts..." she mumbled trying not to fall asleep

Rozel picked her up and carried her inside back to the hospital wing. While the doctor took care of her cheek, Rozel contemplated her future role as mother to the young girl. She was only the new mother of her two month old and she couldn't imagine how Edward and herself would adjust to the new addition to their young family. Still, she was determined to do whatever she could to make Chidori's life easier. Chidori looked up her sleepily and Rozel lightly brushed her forehead with her finger. "I'm going to take care of you. I promise." She said, smiling.

Chidori smiled and started to sing the lullaby her dead mother used to sing which only made her even sleepier. She gave her hair a firm but light yank to wake her up.

When her cheek had been bandaged up, Rozel carried the sleepy child down the hall to find Ed. She found him in Roy's office, signing paperwork for the adoption while Roy rocked a very sleepy Lily to sleep. "Is that all? A few signatures and she's ours?" Rozel asked, peeking over his shoulder. "Not quite. We have to sign these papers then appearin court for the judge to make the decision. But the odds are in our favor since she has no one else." Rozel shifted the weight of the sleeping child so she could sign the papers then handed them to Roy to be given to the court.

Chidori was dreaming of when her parents were alive. Her dad was teaching her how to waltz by having her stand on his toes while he did all the work, her mother sat on a couch in the ballroom watching and smiling the whole time. Chidori clung tighter to rozel and giggled softly in her sleep.

When Lily had fallen asleep, Roy handed her to Ed. "Let's get them home. We've all had a long day." Rozel said softly. "Be in my office at 2:30 tomorrow. I'll escort you to the courtroom." Roy said, waving them out the door. After a few moments of walking in silence, Rozel decided to voice her concern. "Ed, do you really think we're the best parents for her? We've only been parents for two months and she's eight years old. I'm still learning how to take care of Lily."

The sound of a loud clap of thunder jolted chidori awake but when she looked outside she found that it was clear as could be. She noticed she was in a room and Ed and Rozel's voices could be heard from the other room. she got up keeping the blanket wrapped around her small shoulders, and went to the other room. "I heard thunder..." she said rubbing her eyes.

Rozel pulled the child into her lap. "Everything's alright. Go back to sleep." She whispered. Ed looked at his wife, how she cradled the child so lovingly. "Rozel, you're going to be just fine. You know exactly how to be her mother."

Chidori began dozing off again, her tip of her thumb in her mouth. This was something she did for comfort herself when she was all alone in the streets.

"She's been through so much so soon. I really think we can relate to her situation better than most parents out there." Rozel said, carrying the girl into their bedroom. She gently lay her down, lying next to her.

chidori snuggled into the pillows, since it has been two long years without having the warmth of a bed. "Mommy..." she mumbled, a small smile on her face.

Rozel wrapped her arms around her. "You're safe now. No need to worry anymore." She whispered. Just as she was drifting off to sleep, the baby began to cry. "Go back to sleep, I'll take care of the baby." Ed said, leaving the room. The next thing she knew, the sun was starting to peek through the bedroom window.
